INCONVENIENCED
Any minute now, even as I write this, my telephone is going to ring. A friend of mine is in some trouble, and has told me that he’s calling. The trouble is, I have to write this: my deadline is looming.
I find compassion easier when I make an appointment for it. If someone has a need, it’s so much easier for me to help when I have clarity of mind, time to spare, and the physical and emotional energy that I need. But when I’m busy, distracted, or exhausted, then someone’s need can too quickly become an unwelcome interruption. Most needs don’t keep schedules. We need to cultivate a willingness to be interrupted.
Got to go. Believe it or not, the phone literally just rang. It was not my friend, but someone else who needed to talk. Living what I write can be a challenge!
